   About the Department

The department of Marathi is one of the core department of the college .It was Established in 1968 with B.A and B.Com as the main courses. M.A in Marathi was introduced in 1999. The department has been assisting, monitoring and helping constantly to upgrade the teaching learning process of college. The department has a legacy of popular teacher like Dr. Nalini somkuwar (Socialist& Feminist) Dr. I.k. Orke (social Activist &writer) who left undeliable impression on the students in their time through their dedicated teaching and guidance. The faculties of the department are always active in research and engaged in study Material creation for students .Study material and question bank created by the faculties are available on college official website: www.pwscollege.edu.in. The students of the college mostly belong to the backward communities and many come from rural areas. These students also facing many problem and issues in spoken language to proper pronunciation. Department of Marathi through its various and multiple activities during the academic session helped them overcome the problem. Workshop on grammar and communicative Marathi for fluency in Language For the active  involvement  of the students during the academic session department of  Marathi run its activities through “Marathi Abhyas Mandal ”  like Students Workshops & Seminar, Marathi  Bhasha  Din programme Study Tour , Essay Competition, Poetry recitation, Debet & Elocution Competition.Through Movie Club syllabus related movies and Drama are screening  in the digital classroom .

                                      It is a tradition of the department that every year the student of the department appear in the Merit list of the Nagpur university. A research center is available in the department .Dr.Manisha Nagpure is Research guide and six students are doing Ph.d  research work under her supervision . Department has its own  library with various references book ,texts book , literature and language . Special efforts and guidance is provided  to M.A Marathi students for competitive exam. And NET/SET examination. Many students (Star Alumni) of the department are working in good position in the society.
