About the Department:

The department of English is one of the core departments of the college. It was established in 1968 with B.A. and B.Com as the main courses.  M.A. in English was introduced in 1998. The department has been assisting, monitoring and helping constantly to upgrade the teaching learning process of college. The department has a legacy of popular teachers like Dr. N. K. Verma, Dr. Pranoti Chukerbutty (Ex. Principal), Dr. Sen and Dr. Shubha Mishra who left undeliable impression on the students in their time through their dedicated teaching and guidance. The faculties of the department are always active in research and engaged in study material creation for students. Study material and Video tutorial created by the faculties are available on college official website: www.pwscollege.edu.in and YouTube channel: PWS Teachers’. The students of the college mostly belong to the backward communities and many come from the rural areas. These students also come from the vernacular medium of instructions facing competency issues in spoken English. Department of English through its various bridge courses at the entry level, Value added courses and multiple activities during the session helped them overcome the problem. For the active involvement of the students during the academic session department run its activities through “English Literary Society”. Department has its own Language Laboratory with 20 students capacity at a time. Through Movie Club syllabus related movies are screen in the digital classroom and students are taken to the nearby theatre to watch biopics and movies concerning national issues.  Department has its library with various texts on literature and Language. Special guidance is provided to MA English students for NET/SET examination.
